GPS-WPA Demands Free Buses for Locals Only

The Gibraltar Private Sector Workers & Pensioners Association (GPS-WPA) commented today about local bus services. The Group says it that it has been approached by worried residents about alleged misuse of the buses since they became free.

The resulting extra congestion affects citizens of all ages and also local businesses, says GPS-WPA. This is because the buses are being used at peak times by tourists and foreign tour operators offering tours on the buses. This results in not enough room on board for other passengers.

The Association understands that the new bus arrangements are on a trial basis. However, it hopes that the Government and Transport section will take the Association's suggestion on board that the service is only offered to residents and registered workers in Gibraltar. GPS-WPA recommends that bus passes be made available on application from a central office to all residents and registered workers in Gibraltar.
