GPS-WPA questions Government

The Gibraltar Private Sector Workers and Pensioners Association
(GPS-WPA) has expressed extreme disappointment at the lack of any
provision been made towards private sector pensioners in this current
budget.
The Association say that at a meeting in April with Chief Minister,
Fabian Picardo and Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia they were
promised that the Government's manifesto commitment would be fully
implemented in their term of office. The group were promised that this
budget would see the beginning of the initiation of that commitment.

GPS-WPA said today "It seems that there are public funds available for
a large number of sectors locally and yet there is no money available
for the most vulnerable citizens of our community. These are private
sector pensioners and time is certainly not on their side".

The Association will be seeking an urgent meeting with Government to
discuss all this further.

GPS-WPA welcomes politicians' comments

The Gibraltar Private Sector Workers and Pensioners Association (GPS-WPA) today welcomed the recent comments of the opposition parties on the Rock. The Association has held a series of meetings over the last couple of months with the GSLP, the Liberal Party and the PDP and looks forward to meeting the GSD when this can be arranged.

As regards the three political opposition groups however, the GPS-WPA endorses many of the stated views and intentions of these parties. The issues include a scheme for additional financial support for pensioners to ensure that their standard of living kept up with economic growth and the maintaining and development of Community Care.

The pressure group emphasises its wish to be on good terms with all Gibraltar's parties and therefore looks forward to completing its meetings with all four local political parties.

The meeting was another of this summer's programme intended to discuss the aims and objectives of the Association with local organisations. The GPS delegation included committee members John Martinez, Leslie Bruzon and Lyana Armstrong-Emery. The meeting was very productive with much common ground discovered between the GPS-WPA and the Chamber of Commerce. The two organisations are hoping that they will be able to meet again on a
